Investigating the Media: TV Game Shows

Key dates-

Preliminary Material Issued to You: Monday 24th April
Examination: Tuesday 23rd May

Unit 1 (the exam) = 40% of your GCSE grade.
Unit 2 (C/A) = 60% of your overall grade.

- The exam is 1 hour 30 minutes long.
- 22 minutes per question.
- There are generally four exams question worth equal marks.
- 3 SA styled questions. 1 creative (drawing) question.

- A challenge
- Contestants (members of the public/celebrities)
- A set that usually looks the same each week
- Elimination process
- Filmed in a studio with a live audience (not always)
- Tension and excitement for contestants and viewers watching at home are important factors
- An abundance of catchphrases
- Hosts put the contestants at ease with humour
- Often aimed at families. Saturday nights 7:00-9:00
- Sub-genres such as: activity orientated game shows, dating game shows, panel games,  puzzle orientated game shows, quiz shows
